Secrets of Endari: Dev Diary #2 (Selina and Edward)
Every epic fantasy needs its protagonists. And in Secrets of Endari, you will follow the adventures of two characters.
Selina.
and Edward.
Many of you have probably already read an introduction to Selina's story. From Fear, Find Fire is a short story I wrote well over a year ago featuring Selina a few years before the events of the larger book series. (That story is also featured in my upcoming short story collection, Shattering Worlds).
Though the spelling of her name has slightly changed since I wrote that story, the core of her narrative remains the same. A young girl arrives in a colonial town seeking adventure and an education. She's thrust into the middle of a revolution, recognizing a new path toward glory . . . at the same time, she begins uncovering a terrifying reality about the world.
If Selina's story sounds vaguely familiar, it should. I've explicitly based the character after Alexander Hamilton of the American Revolution, though you can be certain I've added my own unique twists to the narrative.
For instance, I don't think Hamilton had an affinity for Soul, the name for magic in Secrets of Endari. And Selina is particularly gifted in pushing Fire with Soul.
And what about Edward?
In true fantasy fashion, Edward is the natural foil to Selina . . . inspired by Aaron Burr of early American history. My history fans, though, don't think you can predict the ending of the series based on those two inspirations!
Edward is a headstrong leader of the growing revolution, though his devout religion, The Way of Peace, calls him toward pacifism. Edward is immediately enamored by Selina when she arrives in town, but as many of these stories go, their relationship won't be nearly as simple as some might hope.
Edward and Selina's fate will become inexorably intertwined as the revolution brews and the world nears an apocalypse.
Oh, and Edward has an affinity for Life Soul. He's a talented healer!
